UAB and Vallès Occidental municipalities sign agreement to promote university access
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the mayors of Vallès Occidental signed an important agreement on March 6 to promote access to university education for the population of the region, with special attention to the most vulnerable groups. This commitment was formalized during a Council of Mayors held in the boardroom of the UAB Rectorate, with the presence of the Rector, Javier Lafuente, and the Councilor for Equality and Feminism, Eva Menor.
The agreement seeks to promote innovation, applied research, and networking, enhancing knowledge transfer between the university and the territory. Additionally, it contemplates programs such as ITACA, which facilitate access to higher education for people who would never consider being university students, and microcredentials, which offer new training opportunities.
"We want it to be an opportunity to find employment and to develop one's own interests in the face of the labor market," highlighted Xavier Garcés, President of the Regional Council of Vallès Occidental, specifically referring to the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, which opens new opportunities to continue working in collaboration with municipalities to benefit the territory.
The change of location for the Council of Mayors, usually held at the Regional Council headquarters between Sabadell and Terrassa, underscored the key role that the university must play as a transmitter of knowledge and in collaboration with municipalities, beyond Cerdanyola and Sabadell, where it has campuses.
